Hi. I'm Leroy from Boston, and this is where I was too lazy to put something meaningful about myself.

"Depressed? Do something that makes you happy!"

Could you live on $8 or $9 dollars an hour? A computer game made by the Urban Ministries of Durham in North Carolina and an advertising firm called McKinney lets you play out life with a low-wage job as a single mom. The objective is to make it a month, juggling getting a job, rent, a place to live, food and coping with the costs of repairs, things for your child, insurance, etc.. Actually a very hard game to play and full of reminders of the difficulties of life on that kind of salary.

Play the game.

Seriously, if you haven’t played before, play it now. If you have played before, play it again. Especially important during this election season.

just playing this game alone made me really stressed and anxious

THANK YOU

THANK YOU

ALL THE HATER ANONS, PLAY THIS

This game is amazing. Play it, play it, play it! I shared this with a professor who then had her students play it. So real.

I made it through the month, but only by being a complete stay at home do nothing and I still wouldn’t have made rent at the end of it.

Jesus, this is so important. Please - if you live comfortably, play this. It IS the real world. This is a somewhat accurate approximation of actual LIFE for about a third of American citizens. If you don’t understand why your friends consistently excuse themselves from hanging out by saying either “I don’t have money” or “I don’t have time”, play this. You will know.

So I message this guy and we start talking a little and I ask for a face picture and he goes “How did you like the homelessness discussion?”

Now lemme give you a little background: for a few weeks I’ve been working on a group project to invite these people from a drop-in center for homeless youth. There are fliers all over the the campus and there’s one right outside of my door. At the event, there are pretty much no guys-non that I wouldn’t recognize anyways.

So I’m over here thinking this guy lives in my dorm and it turns out he was one of the fucking guys presenting and long story short I think we have a date
